Accessible Screenings UK website sees ‘soft’ launch

The new comprehensive listings site for accessible screenings at UK cinemas – appropriately named ‘Accessible Screenings UK’ – has this week seen its public ‘soft’ launch.

The site, which will provide the first searchable listings service for those looking to attend subtitled, audio described and autism friendly screenings, is still very much in its development phase. The organisation behind it, the UK Cinema Association, wanted however to make it available to users so that they could try it for themselves and feedback on its ease of use, and what improvements might be made before it goes fully ‘live’.

The site also includes explanations of what each type of accessible screening involves, detailed information on the access features available at each UK cinema site, a news section containing updates on relevant developments in the sector and an opportunity for customers to provide direct feedback on their cinema experiences.

Developed in consultation with the UK Cinema Association’s longstanding Disability Working Group, ‘Accessible Screenings UK’ has been designed with accessibility and usability in mind, and will be managed on behalf of the Association by access specialists.

Welcoming the ‘soft’ launch of the site, UK Cinema Association Chief Executive Phil Clapp said:

‘Accessible Screenings UK’ is intended to make the whole process of finding the right screening and then visiting the cinema much easier for our disabled customers, and indeed their family and friends. While we have put a great deal of effort into developing the site so far, given its complexity, we fully expect that there will be some initial teething troubles.

We welcome all feedback on its operation, from our partners in disability representative groups and from individuals. We hope that with their support we can quickly move to a position where we can fully launch the site.’

The searchable elements of ‘Accessible Screenings UK’ are based on the leading industry-funded website Findanyfilm.com.  Findanyfilm.com is the UK’s most comprehensive screen entertainment search engine, where users can search to watch, buy, or download films and TV shows from legitimate sources across cinema, disc and digital.  FindAnyfilm is developed and managed by the Industry Trust for IP Awareness the UK’s primary film, TV and video industry consumer education body, that promotes the value of copyright and creativity through initiatives such as the well-established Moments Worth Paying For campaign.
